If you haven’t seen the promos for the new show Motor City Motors, you haven’t been watching the Discovery Channel lately.
Motor City Motors is produced by Emmy Award winning Thom Beers, the same reality king who’s brought us several of our favorite shows on TV. Beers’ credits include Deadliest Catch, Dirty Jobs, Lobstermen, Ice Road Truckers
, Biker Build-Off and many more.
With Motor City Motors, Beers looks to bring yet another hit show to the Discovery Channel. Set to debut on Monday, December 28th while millions of viewers are off on holiday vacations, ratings for the new show could be very strong.
While Beers’ shows have been put into the ‘reality’ category, that term doesn’t do his shows justice. If you’re a Deadliest Catch addict like I am, you know what I’m talking about. While we love girls in bikinis, you’ll have a hard time finding one in any of his shows.
Instead, Beers’ productions tend to revolve around dramatic relationships wrapped around extreme situations that actually happen in real life. When you combine strong, unique personalities with difficult or dangerous environments, the result is much more engaging. These are the types of characteristics that set Beers’ shows into a category which are clearly different from prime-time network reality TV. It’s also why we’ll bank on just about anything the guy does.
Motor City Motors Summary
Take two brothers that build custom bikes in downtrodden Detroit. Add personalities, bad attitudes, machines, fire, cars and big chunks of metal to a tight deadline, and that’s the basic premise of the show. The brothers are Dave and James (Jamie) Kaye, owners of Detroit Brothers Custom Cycles.
The guys admit to a failing business about to go under (like everything else in Detroit), when along comes Thom Beers and Motor City Motors. Just in time it appears. While I have no clue about the amount of compensation these guys are getting, no doubt they’ll be doing well if the show becomes a hit.
In the first episode (airing December 28th) the guys take a 1926 Ford Model T and turn it into a rat rod. They have 5 days to build the beast, and beat a stock Model T in a drag race. Hot rod versus stock Model T is too easy you say? Well, it should be easy…if they meet the deadline without killing each other in the process.
Tune in to the Discovery Channel to watch tonight at 10pm ET.

Awesome…..can’t wait for more from the show. Not sure of the cast however. Really liiked how that Dewey guy handled himself. Nothing seemed to phase him and he knew what it took to get the job done. I bet he has some good ideas in his head…and maybe the other guys to…tap into that..quick
Baba Booey – I think next weeks show looks fun. While it’s not a useful vehicle they’re doing, it does look like something a lot more interesting and fun. I’m expecting it to be the best episode so far.
I’m sorry for this comment but i feel is the truth if they are going to build something make it full use the pavement machine & the corn stalker have no real use will be a good idea to build something whit daily use at work at least 80% of effectiveness. I hope to see better ideas because I like the show
My husband painted the corn harvester for free and didn’t even get any credit for it, nor did they show the end product. They didn’t even show it, nor give a thanks to him at the end of the show.
All that time working on that d*mn thing took away money that he could have earned at his real job and time away from our son & our relationship.
He ended up on the editing room floor.
Word of advice? If they wanna keep doing the show, they’re going to have to focus more on the working men and women of Detroit and not focus so much on the Brothers.
If people wanna see drama in Detroit, most times, all they have to do is look out their front doors, rather than spend their hard earned money on cable to see it on tv. That’s how life REALLY is here.
Good luck with the show.
Sorry not on ten Pat
Hey Jeremy, did you notice, Dave left us a brief comment as well! That was cool of him.

what team were you on? i am curious if my balancing sculptures that were on the set made it all the way to #13 without getting morphed or crushed?…………. did ya see ‘em?
Hey Everyone. Saw some other guys from different episodes on here, so I thought I’d pop on too and drop a note. As the narrator for the show, I just wanted to say thanks to the fans for starting this series off on the right foot. Keep spreading the word and let’s help Motor City Motors and the Detroit Bros. get Detroit back off the ground!
P.Dragan….like it says under the logo, this is a fan site. We have nothing to do with production of the show.
I liked the show asphalters, however I was very disappointed Steven was cut from the show! I thought that was insensitive of you.
Will,
In response to your “uglification” quote, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder… U G L Y you ain’t got no alibi, u UGLY.
I think their shit ROCKS!!! Let’s try to be a little more positive and not so full of hate.
I’m not a mechanic, or even a car fanatic. I’m just a 61 year old woman, born and raised in Detroit, who now lives in Missouri for the last 7 years. I want to say how proud I am that Detroit and the hard workers of Detroit are getting some national recognition. I wish everyone all the success in the world.
They have my support, but I just hope they don’t embarrass our city and act like a bunch of idiots like some guys on other TV shows.
Let me tell you this show is the real deal I busted my ass for 5 days like I never had an at the end I was burnt ,bloody , sore and I loved every min. look for me on #10 ROAD DEVIL Chris
Nice job guys, so what if reality shows are trendy. Rather than knocking the trend, I say run with it man! Good for local business, good for local morale, and good for a national perception of Detroit. It ain’t all bad here. “Good things still happen in Detroit”
GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. COULD NOT WAITE TO SEE FIRST SHOW. BRUCE KIMMEN, OWNER OF HEADS UP RACING NEEDS HIS OWN SHOW. EVERYONE WANTS POWER IN EVERY TOY OUT THERE. I WANT TO SEE A PERSON USE THEIR TALENT BUILDING POWER AND PROVING IT ON TV. BUILD IT AND HAVE SOMEONE THAT CAN RACE IT. NOW THATS GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. SPEED, POWER AND DON’T FORGET THE GOOD LOOKING GIRLS. THAT’S EVEN BETTER.
oh by the way hello to fabricator kevin! this is your neighbor at detroit custom paint…. glad we were on the series together!
