Detroit Bros

Detroit Bros is a custom, one-off motorcycle shop located at 23510 Woodward Ave in Ferndale, Michigan, about 8 miles north of Detroit. The shop is owned and operated by brothers James and Dave Kaye.

If you thought these guys were just a couple of gearheads, you’d be wrong because these are educated men. Dave has a degree in finance from the University of Michigan Business School, while James studied metal sculpture at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Prior to building custom bikes, Dave used his finance degree to work as an equity options market maker on the Chicago Board Options Exchange. James has previous experience working with the innovative bike builder Ron Finch. Their combined talents offer customers unique & beautiful machines with edgy angles and design.

James and Dave opened Detroit Bros Custom Cycles in 2002 with a mission to “build totally unique motorcycles that focus on the mechanical and subversive, while bucking the trend of homogeneous mass-produced choppers.” That’s a lot of big words for me, but I think it means ‘cool shit’.

The brothers were featured on Biker Build-Off a few years back, where they turned more than a few heads with their unique style.

Now they are the stars of their own TV show on the Discovery Channel. The show, as you might’ve guessed is called Motor City Motors. It airs on Mondays at 10:00 pm ET beginning on December 28th. No doubt the Discovery Channel will rerun episodes all week long like they always do, so no worries if you miss one at it’s original airing time.
